Crockpot Cube Steak

I am ALL for easy meals!  Especially meals I can just throw in the crockpot and do nothing else.  Well, here’s one I’ve made a couple times already.  It is SO EASY and SO TASTY!  Crockpot Cube Steak.  I didn’t take a picture when I made it (I will try to remember next time!), but there is one on the site this recipe came from.  This is great served with creamy mashed potatoes, another veggie (green beans possibly), and crescent rolls…gotta have bread to sop up the remaining gravy!

Anyhow, this is a recipe I highly recommend!

Until next time!

Homemade Cough Syrup

I have been a little under the weather the past several days.  I, at first, thought it was just allergies, then got a little worse, so I thought probably a cold.  Well, yesterday, I lost my voice, had lots of drainage, and felt like I was coughing up my lungs.  RELIEF WAS NEEDED ASAP!  I tend to be extremely stubborn when it comes to taking medicine…I like to be as all natural as possible.  From earlier research, I knew honey and lemon were good for colds, but I didn’t know how to take them.  I went to the lovely information packed Internet, and used Swagbucks to search for “honey and lemon for bronchitis” (I was sure I had bronchitis, as my mom was just diagnosed with it, and my symptoms were the same as hers).  There it was…a few search results down…Honey Lemon Cough and Cold Remedy.  I had the three required ingredients on hand…raw honey, lemon, and garlic cloves.  I whipped this syrup up and started taking a teaspoonful every 30 minutes for the first couple of hours, then a teaspoonful every couple of hours before I went to bed.  As the evening went on, I started coughing less, feeling less congested, and my voice started slowing coming back!  I went to bed and slept until 4:00 a.m. when I had another coughing attack.  I got up and took another teaspoonful of this wonderful homemade cough syrup, and within 15 minutes or so the coughing subsided.  I have continued taking a teaspoonful every 2-3 hours today, and though not 100% better, I am definitely feeling better than I have been the last few days.  This is definitely a home remedy I will keep bookmarked!

Until next time!

Bountiful Baskets

A Facebook friend introduced me to Bountiful Baskets Food Co-Op (BBFC) over a month ago.

"BBFC distributes produce baskets, organic produce baskets, artisan bread and sandwich bread every other week. BBFC is a group of people who work together for mutual benefit. This is a grassroots, all volunteer, no contracts, no catch co-operative. Since there are no employees at Bountiful Baskets, we as a group pay rock bottom prices on your food. This also means the co-op would not happen without volunteers. If you are interested in the co-op continuing, please volunteer occasionally. All it takes is a little time, energy and a smile. Volunteer opportunities include helping prepare the baskets, breaking down boxes, assisting with the distribution, and packing up. To help out, simply arrive an hour early dressed and ready to work with water to drink." www.bountifulbaskets.org

I ordered (contributed is what Bountiful Baskets calls it) my first Bountiful Basket in early December.  Here's a pic of what I received:

This is one conventional basket, and the cost is $15.00.  I was VERY pleased with the fresh fruits and veggies I received!  Oh, and you do not know what you will get ahead of time.  There are also several add-ons available ranging from $8.00 on up.  I placed my second order for a basket this week, and I added on a Juice Pack...which will consists of fruits and veggies that can be juiced.

Since this is a non-profit, volunteer organization, they do ask that for every 7-8 times, or as often as you like, you volunteer at your pick up location if you are able.  I'm going to be volunteering at mine tomorrow!

If you're interested in more information about Bountiful Baskets and to see if there's a location in your area, head on over to their website...everything you need to know is there!  I will also be glad to answer any questions you may have.
